A little bit of Marine Electronics information.

For a lay man, marine electronics means radar, digital compass, binoculars and some other bits and pieces of gadgets.

But there are more to it gentleman! I suppose you can learn more about a few other gadgets such as ‘Depth Finder’ and ‘Fish Finder’.

A fish finder is essentially a sonar device that is used to measure the amount of fish at various depths in the ocean bed. It also helps the fisher man to identify the species of a caught fish, so it is also known as a fish identifier.

A fish finder is a type of fathometer, both being specialized types of echo sounding systems, a type of Active SONAR. The fish finder uses active sonar to detect fish and 'the bottom' and displays them on a graphical display device, generally a LCD or CRT screen.

The technology:

In a generalized sense, an electrical impulse from a transmitter is converted into a sound wave by the transducer, called a hydrophone, and sent into the water. When the wave strikes something such as a fish, it is reflected back and displays size, composition, and shape of the object. The exact extent of what can be discerned depends on the frequency and power of the pulse transmitted.

Like fish finder, there is another device called Chart Plotters. Now with the advent of computer interfaced multipurpose fish finders combining GPS technology, digital chart-plotting, perhaps radar and electronic compass displays in the same affordable sporting unit.

One browse through all these type of marine electronics devices in the web site of North Eastern Marine Electronics that also sells for camping, hiking, hunting, fishing boating, and driving.

A more curious person can also see a large collection of Standard Horizon electronics and Raymarine and fish finders, high-tech GPS chart plotters and Garmin Marine Electronics and electronic fishing tools like Furuno Fish Finders and Garmin Marine Electronics.
