The founder of Mixi is now a billionaire. But don't rush off to visit their website if you don't know Japanese because the website is in Japanese only.
I read that it was launched in early 2004 and as on today it has about 5 million users. Knowing their passion communication, it is no wonder it is highly popular and also very active.
My personal feeling is if their website is built on dual language (English and Japanese), it would enable global communication instead of restricting it to the people of Japan alone. I have immense respect for Japanese and dreaming to visit Japan one day.
Mixi has all the usual features of uploading pictures and video, rating system etc.
Kenji Kasahara, the founder of Mixi has recently took his company to the stock market and is now reported to have become billionaire.
