So, what can you do in Good Reads?

I am aware that I wrote about Good Reads sometime back. Since them I am using that site to immense benefit. My students are always thanking me for my blog post.

I am bringing up my post again for the benefit of new readers.

GoodReads, the social network for books, book readers and book authors. As of now, there 30 million books in its database.

30 Million books!

So, what can you do in Good Reads?

Read what you like and then recommend it; browse through others’ recommendations too.

Review the book you read, rate it for the benefit of others. But remember, taste differs; so as always, stick to your preferences but there is no harm trying a new book totally based recommendations-right? You are more likely to find an unexplored gem.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention about the actively participated discussion group and you also can create a book club. What better way to interact with like minded people?

Good Reads also offer a Facebook application! That’s a good one!

See how it works.

Where to find different hair styles?

A beautician that I know of was in a predicament. She was approached by a group of college students and sought her advise on latest hair styles.

She is not exposed to current styles and fashion. She is a rather conservative beautician with her own limitations.

She turned to me for help. I did a bit of research in the Internet and found a directory of hair styling saloons that has over 14,000 listings. I did not delve deep into the directory as I was least interested. I just noted down the URL of the directory and conveyed to my beautician.

No, she was not satisfied. She has no time to search for what she wanted. I was lucky with her second request. I found out UK hairdressers that has over 1000 hairstyles. This time I did peep in the website and my God, what a database of hair styles they have compiled!

Hugg the green.

Are you committed to the cause of Green?
Would like to share your views, opinions and news on green issues with like minded persons?
Want to stay updated on environmental matters?

Hugg is a social news site with a strong focus on environmental issues apart from categories that include politics, science, fashion and technology. Not a great combination-right? (Smile).

I like Hugg and some of the news reported make up sit up and notice. An example below will tell you what I mean:
"
The average American eats 67 pounds of beef a year (or about 1/10th of a cow). Problem is, that takes 167,500 gallons of water, 1072 pounds of grain, and 3.35 acres of land to produce.."

The site has very simple layout. There is no information about the developers.

Where to find affordable web hosting companies?

“Mala, they took my money and vanished. All my emails to them are safely back in my inbox as undelivered. What should I do?” One of my trainees called me yesterday and complained thus.

I realized I have misled her to a wrong hosting company. Poor lady, it is her first online presence and it started off…. no, it has a starting problem. Even though I am aware of my favorite Website Hosting Review site, I directed her to a scammer.

I apologized to her and promised to refund the money she has sent to the hosting company. Today, I intend to ask her to visit my dependable web hosting review site where she can browse through several reviews of web hosting service providers. The reviews and the resultant ranks are based on users’ feedback.

They have published the top ten web hosting companies and Blue Host is ranked number 1.

I know how overwhelming for the first timer to decide on the web host. Apart from the hosting fee and up time guarantee, there are several factors to consider such as what type of hosting platform you require, the server storage and bandwidth, control panel features and so on.

Since I have been online for more than eight years, I know what type of hosting is required for a web site or a blog. Every hosting company offers a little something different.

Web hosting review sites are great resources to select one’s web host and their role played in this regard cannot be taken lightly.

Buy and sell events tickets online.

You might have a dependably ticketing agent who obliges you for last minute ticket delivery for the latest hot show in your city. But still, men are fallible-right? Don't you think it is wise to have a backup resource just in case if your date contacts you at the eleventh hour?

Eventbrite is the world’s largest self-service online ticketing site. Eventbrite-how aptly named!

Eventbrite makes it easy for anyone to hold a successful event of any type and size. Eventbrite is free if your event is free. If you sell tickets to your event, Eventbrite collects a fee per ticket. Fair enough!

Eventbrite is a typical Silicon valley company with service as its prime motive.

Herbal acne treatment!

I have been writing about several review sites that publish reviews on acne treatment pills, gels, oils and creams. Some of them have herbal ingredients but none of them are wholly herbal made.

I know even the best rated herbal based cures for acne won't work for certain people. Don't blame the herbs for that.

I have come across a blog about aromatherapy and in that blog, I happened to read the following content when I clicked on the 'Acne' category.

"Now as for the herbs that can be a natural acne treatment, you will want to use products that have sarsaparilla, yellow dock, burdock, and cleavers in their list of ingredients. These herbs are natural acne treatments".

This is a superb blog authored by Joey and has blogged about a great of essential oils for myriad purposes.

A few oils:
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Thyme Essential Oil
Vanilla Essential Oil
Vetiver Essential Oil
Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil

Will somebody give a home loan still?

700 billion dollar bail out or not;
Wall street collapse or not;
Banks fold up or not;

There are people always looking for loans and there financial institutions that are looking for customers who want loan. Any loan man, car loan, business loan, payday loan, home loan, wedding loan and so on are still being distributed in America and still being sought after by Americans and other residents of America.

Well, why not?

Here is one website that has published reviews of loan givers and one can search for his/her heart content for loan providers.

Go to TrustE Marketing.

No, I don't want any loan!

Great resources for teachers from Annenberg Media.

I am insatiable as far as teaching resources are concerned. "I know this", "I have come across this" are words that will never escape from my mouth when I am introduced to teaching resources, education aids etc.

For example, would you mind taking a look at this host of video lectures ranging from the art of the Wild West to abnormal psychology?

Or, how about this step-by-step look at algebra concepts. along with video instructional series for college and high school classrooms and adult learners?

This how to guide seems to be very interesting:

"How to use artifacts in the study and interpretation of literature. A video workshop for high school American literature teachers."

Annenberg Media uses media and telecommunications to advance excellent teaching in American schools.
