Search engines for social networks.

There are 6 search engines exclusively dedicated to search social network. Each search engine uses different algorithms to perform the act of searching.

The rate at which the social networking sites pop up each day, I am afraid they will be redundant in a year or two. Something different will be invented by then.

There is a new phrase that is being used in the social networking circle and it is called 'Social White Pages".

I read in Make Use of site that the search engine named SocialMention allows you to search blogs, microblogs, networks, bookmarks, comments, events, images, news, videos and audio.

Like what you do in Google, you can set up alerts for your searches and you will be notified in your email when an alert you have created found a match.

How to make money using Topsy.com

I was recommended to visit Topsy.com, a real time search engine that shows the most popular links in Twitter. My curiosity was fully aroused. It must be interesting I thought. After all, the big money makers in the Internet use data from sources as these trendings alone.

You know Google Trends is the best possible resource to make blog about and make money by blogging.

Twitter hot searches is another top class resource to milk money by writing a few lines about any one of the hot trends in Twitter in your blog.

I assumed that Topsy.com should be a similar resource. What I saw there failed to sustain my interest. Majority of the links are from world's leading newspapers like NY Times, NDTV, Washington Post etc.

Apart from just links, you can search for videos, photos and Tweets . I clicked on the 'Tweets' button and just to check if any of my tweets is retweeted, I searched a word that I used in my last tweet.

Voila! I got it! Someone had obviously retweeted. The phrase I searched was, "banish unwanted thoughts".

Here is the screen shot: Click on the image for a larger view.

Yes, I must agree topsy.com is using a technology that helps them to index real fast. As they say, it ingests massive amounts of authored content from the world’s largest social networks.

A recipe search engine.

A search engine dedicated exclusively for recipes and ingredients used in recipes is located at http://www.cookzillas.com/submit.php
Recipe web site owners and bloggers can submit their websites and blogs to be listed in CookZillas to enhance search engine rankings and to get targeted visitors.

If you visit the home page, you can search for any recipes or ingredients. This facility is for people like who like to cook new food or to know more about a particular ingredient.

I decided to test the effectiveness of it and typed in "Tulasi" also known as 'Basil'. The search result literally shocked me. There was no mention of it in the recipes shown.

I next tried to search for 'basil'. The result page matched it this time and yielded 80 recipes that had 'basil' as an ingredient.

Spread the word please!

The e-book search engine to compare ebook prices.

Have you ever thought why you are able to compare physical books only and not e-books? Why search engines don't search e-books online malls or other websites that sell exclusively e-books.

I won't mind if a search engine crawls every website that sells:
* e-books
* PLR articles packs
* MRR products

I was directed to leatherbound.me that searches for e-books only. If you click on the search results individually, you can see their prices on different outlets that include Kindle, Nook and iBook Store.

Look at the screenshot below after I clicked on one of the e-books shown in the search result. Also note the Tweet button at the end of the page for quick social media sharing.

Meaningful semantic search engine.

LSI-latent semantic indexing-the algorithm of search engines that is bringing about sweeping changes in the information industry.

Kngine is the new Semantic Search Engine cum Question and Answer Engine that is on every webmasters and content developers mind. This new search engine will provide meaningful search result applying Semantic indexing technology.

It also answers user's questions on keyword concepts and on anything and everything.
Each search result gives you a short summary of the search terms plus links to sites dealing with your search term.

For example, if you key in 'latent semantic indexing', you get to view a summary of of it plus links to websites that are dealing with latent semantic indexing.

The search time is very fast and I like the Kngine.

Live search engine.

Collecta is a search engine that takes more work from a searcher. Yes, you just can't expect to see search results immediately after you press the 'enter" button. It requires a few more clicks from you.

It says it is a search engine that brings search results in real time and it fetches results from Twitter, Jaiku, various blogs, Flickr images and Youtube videos.

Do you know what is real time search results?
Colleta fetches results on your search term as and when the search related text or images appear in social media, blog posts and image and video sites.

Its main drawback is its interface. I don't think I will use Collecta again.

Google's flipper flattens browsing ways.

Google Labs-the place where world's most geniuses are employed have come out with yet another fantastic product called 'Flipper".

This one product is sufficient to tell the world of netizens that why Yahoo! or MSN can't match the Google.

The Flipper enables us to browse the website faster; it is just like a magazine that we flip through its pages and stops to read a page that interests or attracts us.

Other who have helped Google to launch Flipper are The New York Times and Techcrunch.

What this Flipper shows is only a bunch of images of newspapers and blogs.
When you click on an image, it loads into a website.

The images are arranged as 'Popular", "Sections", "Topics" and "Sources".

You can also search the Flipper just like any other search engine.

When we start searching for a website, we wish it will presented to us on a plate carrying a certificate that it is the most useful website on the topic we have searched-right?

But, do we get that? Obviously no! We land on a page full of good, the and the ugly. We then have to squeeze all our Internet knowledge and sieve through the heap to locate what exactly we want.

It is very cumbersome.

Springo is our savior. It exactly does what we wish-presents the most useful websites on the topic we have searched in a sort of online power point presentation.

New Video search engine.

Video Surf is our friendly video search engine that searches all the popular video sharing sites that includes the giant YouTube, Metacafe, Comedy Central, Yahoo Music, ESPN and Hulu.

Already, the bandwidth all over the world among Internet users have gone over the expected usage and there are gloomy predictions all because of the popularity of online video sites.

My favorite is funny videos. I did a search for funny videos in Video Surf and the search results showed more than a million funny video clips.

Ah, I had 5 full minutes of watching very humorous video clips involving various animals.
Want a shot for yourself?
Go to,

New Sports search engine.

I don't know how many people have been looking for this; I don't know how long you have been waiting for me to tell you about an exclusive search engine for sports.

But, today, I stumbled on to a niche search engine on sports-Players Search.com

What it can do for you?
It can search for you sports lover, the best sports news, video, podcasts and more. I don't think people will use Players Search for any podcasts. I would not look for podcasts because mainly, I can't understand the western accent.

I would straightaway head for video clips of sporting events. All I did for my first search was type in "IPL video". And what I got was mind boggling. I even watched the most loved Zoozoo ads by Vodaphone. I have given one below that I liked most.

Pay a visit to Players Search and you will understand.

You can set (I do) your home to Google IG by. It can have anything you decide. All you do is add stuff to be searched and displayed as per your interest.

Excellent people search engine.

Pipl.com is about browsing the web in search of your own biography or anyone's history. We all certainly leave behind a pile of trail of us in the Internet. We fill out forms revealing our name, date of birth, country of origin, education etc.

Go to http://www.pipl.com/ It is a search engine of people.

Now have fun by typing your name. Pipl.com will reveal every bit of information about you. See the search results. The source will be from so many resources that include Flickr, social networks and many more. The result will astonish you.

You can also type in the city name along with the name of the person you are searching for to narrow down the results.

You can also search by email address. You will get places where that email address is linked.

Wonderful search engine.

A search engine cum bookmarking site.

I stumbled onto this great useful site http://sphere.com

How do you find good blogs in a specific topic? We open Technorati or Blogdigger etc and search for blogs dealing with a specific topic.

But Sphere is not just a blog search engine but offers something significance.
This is a search engine cum bookmarking site.

Like any bookmarking site, you add their tool "Sphere it" to your Links.

For example, you are reading this post and you go to your Links and click "Sphere it".
Now Sphere will analyze the content of this post, and presents you search results with links to other web sites that match the content of the page you are viewing currently.

You can also search the Sphere with specific keywords. It is really wonderful and I don't know how I have survived without it so far.

A reverse search engine for images!

TinEye is a reverse image search engine. In a reverse search engine, you feed the end product (data) and get the source as a result of searching.

For example, you have an image of something and want to know where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions, you can get the details from Tin Eye!.

TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks.

This is wonderful news to me. In fact I have been looking for such a search engine where it can tell me a little more about the images I have and I have a truck load of just images without any data pertaining to them.

While there, don’t forget to install the Firefox plugin of Tin Eye. With the plugin installed, simply right-click on any web image and select ‘Search Image on Tin Eye’.

Where have you gone Gigablast?

It has been quite some time that I visited my dear search engines. I don't like to earn their wrath. After all, I depend on their good will.

I took a free time to visit Gigablast and I really wanted to read it leisurely.

I learnt from a webmaster that GigaBlast was developed by an ex-programmer from Infoseek, a search engine that I respect. Gigablast supports nested boolean search logic using parenthesis and infix notation. A unique search engine, it indexes over 10 billion web pages.

They have fixed themselves a stiff target of indexing 200 billion pages. I doubt very much whether they achieve that. As of now neither search box nor their directory works.

An Encyclopedia of Mythology.

I wonder who in this age will be interested in knowing at least something about mythology. Those days of mythological stories by grandmas are gone. In this mobile world, the next generation won't have the wonderful, caring and knowledgeable grandmas around.

Well, the contemporary children will not even realize what they will be missing.

Oh, yes, I have found out a website called Pantheon. It is an online encyclopedia of mythology where people can search for mythology, folklore, bestiary etc.

I think this is an unique kind of search engine and I would personally enthrall myself reading ancient mythology. I am deeply interested in knowing about Polynesia. The Polynesian women are supposed to be beautiful and their sense of flowers is legendary.

Hyperwords-an excellent add on to Mozilla.

Yesterday's (15th June) edition of Times of India was extremely useful. The stand out is an article about 'Hyperwords'-an add on to your browser. This add on will basically enable you to convert just any word you see anywhere in the web as a hyperword.

This means, when you highlight a text and right click on it, a pop up menu appears with 'Hyperwords' at the top of the menu. When you move your cursor over it, a sub menu displays through which, you can search Google on that highlighted word, look for references, shop at Amazon, translate to several languages, copy, email and blog.

It is an amazing utility that will make our web life easier and fun.

See a demo here.

These are the commands available to us when we hight a word.

Search engines: including sites, blogs, academic, people, news, pictures and video.
References: Wikipedia, Google Books, Wiktionary, Answers.com, Internet Movie Database, World Factbook, Dictionary, UrbanDictionary, Quotations, Acronymfinder and share price.
Translation between numerous languages.
Conversions between currencies and other units.
Go via Google Lucky, URL and Skype.
Copy text plain or with URL.
Print page or selection.
Shop at 8 Internet shops including Amazon, eBay and iTunes.
Email with your desktop email program or via Gmail & Yahoo! Mail.
Tag with 6 different taggers and search.
Blog with Blogger and WordPress as well as blog search with Technorati, IceRocket and Clusty.
Blog subscribe with My Yahoo NewsGator, MyAOL, Rojo, Bloglines, NetVbes & Google.
Look up maps, local time, weather and package tracking.
Page Information about the page you are looking at including what pages link to it and who owns it.
...all in a single click!

Times of India says, " Hyperwords is a relatively new idea, and so far it has fewer than 200,000 users. But it is one of a number of new initiatives designed to transform internet browsing, by providing more connections between data, presenting information in new ways and making it easier to navigate."

Walt Disney's contribution to search engine.

It is not necessary for Newton to live for the world to get benefited by inventions. Walt Disney need not be among us now but the search engine Go belongs to Walt Disney's group.

Go.com is a family friendly search engine that belongs to Walt Disney Internet Group.

Well, as for as the actual search function, there is nothing new an special to write about. Go.com uses Yahoo as its default search engine. Here I don't understand one thing. If a search engine uses another search engine's search results, what is in it for?

Forget about their motive. As an user, I can always use Yahoo! search instead of Go.com
Did you catch my point?
